A Message From Our CEO: Adam V. Russo, Esq.
My sister and I were raised by our mother who had to work three jobs to support us, so we know all too well how expensive healthcare is and how it crushes families across this great country of ours. When I was young, I vowed that one day I would become an attorney with the power to help those in need and use my expertise for good, helping hard-working Americans like my mom. I co-founded The Phia Group in 2000 with that vision in mind. Our own company has implemented for our health benefit plan the same cost containment measures and culture of patient-centric consumerism that we offer to our valued clients and partners. I am proud to say that by so doing, we have bucked the trend, made our coverage more robust AND more affordable. Indeed, we offer free health benefits to eligible employees, so that they never encounter a barrier between them and the care they need.
The healthcare and health benefits industry still has problems with which I — as CEO of a company in this industry, sponsor of a self-funded employee benefit plan, husband to an incredible wife, dad to four great kids, and son of an aging mother — have had first-hand experience. While we have made great strides, there is still so much more that needs to be done in order to achieve our mission of ensuring that all Americans can access high-quality care at a reasonable price. Right now, that process is confusing, painful, disjointed, expensive and, frankly, scary.
All of the services we offer the health benefits industry ensure regulatory compliance, involve legal expertise, and promote transparency in cost and quality outcomes — that in the end benefit employers, their employees and family members. Our successes in this overall vision have allowed us to invest in our community and the communities of our client partners. Ensuring every American is insured is not enough . . . We need to reduce the cost of care. Some reports indicate that healthcare spending has historically increased by more than five-percent each year, and is showing no signs of slowing. Seemingly unfettered pricing and rising costs are imposed upon benefit plan sponsors, who are expected to do more with less. Merely securing insurance for all Americans doesn’t address this trend; among medical bankruptcy filers, most (three-quarters) had health insurance. If the price of healthcare itself isn’t reduced, we will all eventually pay the cost. Meanwhile, a constant barrage of regulatory and legal demands continuously mandates what must be covered, and what plan administrators must do, without addressing the costs they must pay.
